Stories are the most important thing humanity has. That’s why I value the storytellers.
The world is run by stories, by companies, politics, worldviews, and theologies that have no form outside the human imagination. Think about it. Can you touch Google, lift Buddhism, or lean against democracy? No—these things exist only as stories, and when these stories are shared by large enough groups of people, they rule the world, allowing humanity to cooperate on a scale never before seen in history. They’re the source code of reality.
But stories must be responsibly told, and carefully questioned and curated. When they pervert and darken, becoming things of ignorance, cynicism, and hatred, the world darkens with them.
One of my greatest joys is helping storytellers come to realize that they can change the world, and then giving them some of the tools with which to do so. I’ve been lucky and ambitious enough to learn from the best over the course of my career, which has seen me interview editors from major publishing houses, academics, famous authors, celebrities, and a host of other creative talent. I’ve done everything from technical writing, to reportorial articles, marketing, A.I. chat bots, and most recently, to genre fiction and educational nonfiction.
And now I’m here to give back to the creative writing community. Stick around my site, and I guarantee you’ll gain a few of the essential building blocks you need to become a better writer.
About my own writing: I write fantasy, science fiction, and horror—genres which have the unique ability to take very real issues and turn them so that they catch the light of truth just so, revealing their secrets. Inspired at a young age by Tolkien’s homey heart, Lovecraft’s grasp of the terrifying unknown, and Oscar Wilde’s linguistic decadence, I seek to make the world just a little bit better by telling fantastical stories that touch truth and wonder by asking the right questions.
As a writer of nonfiction, I—with appropriate skepticism—delve into the darker, niche mysteries of spirituality, investigating and reporting on things that bump in the night: demonology, exorcism, hauntings, and more. I work to reveal the hidden worlds of those who believe they have touched something beyond human understanding.
I hold a bachelor’s degree in English literature with an emphasis in creative writing, and am currently a candidate for a Master of Theological Studies degree, where I am exploring the intersections between theology, myth, and narrative. You can find me spending time at coffee shops, universities, and cemeteries across Virginia’s Hampton Roads area.
